Sydney acid attack

Sydney acid attack

A “targeted assault” is what Sydney police think happened in an acid attack that injured a woman’s face and left emergency workers needing first treatment in Sydney overnight.

A black hatchback drove up in front of the 32-year-old lady as she stood on Dixon Street in Haymarket, witnesses informed police.

Acid was thrown at the woman’s face by three males in face masks before they returned to the car and escaped.

On Friday night, at 11.15 p.m., a lady took sanctuary at a restaurant in an inner-city suburb. Emergency services were contacted.

Firefighter Hazmat teams were sent to the area to investigate the chemical.

In a statement to the media on Saturday, NSW Police Detective Acting Inspector Sean West described the incident as “totally unacceptable.”

“A major police investigation is now underway, and we are requesting the public’s cooperation,” West added. “We think this is a targeted assault at this point.”

Until recently, we don’t know precisely what the acid is made of.

According to the paramedics, she had “severe face injuries from what was suspected to be acid,” which they treated.

“When paramedics arrived, this patient seemed to be battling to breathe,” said NSW Ambulance’s Andrew Bibby.

“The chemical poison had swelled her face and was impairing her eyesight.

“Acid has the potential to be life-threatening since not only does it destroy the skin, but also the underlying tissue.

“An additional problem with face burns is that they may have an effect on the patient’s airway from the inside. Medical and even surgical intervention are required in this situation,” he says.

West claimed that several police officers who were present at the scene had minor injuries.

There were a few minor injuries among the officers, which need some first aid care, which I would want to recognise,” West stated.

Authorities have asked the public to come forward with any leads via Crime Stoppers.
