Loss of lives in South African floods has left Queen Elizabeth ‘very distressed.’

Following the floods in KwaZulu-Natal region, British Queen Elizabeth II issued a letter to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

“I am profoundly grieved to learn of the dreadful loss of life and devastation caused by the recent floods in KwaZulu-Natal province,” the 95-year-old queen writes in her statement to the President.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to all those who have lost their lives, loved ones, homes, and companies.”

The statement continues, “The United Kingdom stands in solidarity with South Africa as you recover from these dreadful tragedies.”

On Thursday, the death toll from South Africa’s “historic” floods reached 341 as helicopters spread out across the southern city of Durban in a frantic search for survivors.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has proclaimed a state of calamity in the region in order to release relief funding.
