Sligo murderer charged with Michael Snee and Aidan Moffitt

A guy appeared in court accused of the murders of two men earlier this week in the Irish town of Sligo.

Yousef Palani, 22, of Markievicz Heights, Sligo, is charged with the murders of Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee.

Additionally, he is charged with assaulting a third guy in the town on 9 April.

He was apprehended by armed police following the assassination of Mr. Snee, 58, whose body was discovered at his Connaughton Road home on Tuesday night.

Mr. Moffitt, 42, was discovered dead in his Cartron Heights home the night before.

Both males had been assaulted and received “significant” injuries, according to the Garda (Irish police).

For the brief hearing, relatives of the two murder victims and the guy who was assaulted sat in the courtroom.

Mr. Palani was remanded in detention and is scheduled to appear in court via a video connection on April 21.

According to the court record, he made no response to the assault allegation and stated that he understood the two murder accusations when presented with them.

A defense attorney sought that the prison service places him on suicide watch and that he receives an urgent psychiatric evaluation.

Outside the court, a sizable crowd had gathered in anticipation of his presence.

They were tense scenes, with insults directed at the jail van as it approached the court.

Then, when the van drove away from the court, several members of the public hammered on the van’s side and were repelled by police.

Fr Noel Rooney, a parish priest who knew both victims, said Thursday that the deaths were “unbelievable” and had caused “a great deal of shock and upset.”
