Western Australia sets new COVID rules

With so many regulatory modifications aimed at reducing the impact of the pandemic on people’s life, Western Australia has made another important step toward exiting COVID.

In other words, if someone you live with or an intimate partner tests positive, you’ll no longer be a close contact.

It implies that a positive case will no longer isolate coworkers or classmates, which will come as a relief to parents who are already planning for Term 2.

Close contacts and positive cases are still subjected to the same guidelines, which include a seven-day quarantine.

 

Someone who is now considered a close contact is someone who:

  • lives with, or
  • stays overnight with, or
  • Has had more than four hours of cumulative contact with a positive case in a residential setting without wearing a mask.

 

A residential care facility, boarding school, residence, or nautical vessel are examples of residential settings. It aligns WA’s definition of close contacts with the national standard.
