The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that forward Ben Meyers has signed a two-year deal with the organization that will run through the 2022-23 season.
Meyers, 23, just finished his junior year at the University of Minnesota, where he was captain and scored 41 points (17g/24a) in 34 games while serving as captain.
Meyers was voted Big Ten Player of the Year and one of three hat trick nominees for the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey’s best player. He was also a member of the Big Ten First All-Star Team and a Second-Team All-American in the NCAA West.
Meyers scored 95 points (39 goals and 56 assists) in 102 NCAA games with Minnesota. In 2020-21, he was given an Honorable Mention All-Big 10 selection while serving as an alternative captain. Meyers was chosen to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team and was a finalist for the conference’s freshman of the Year award as a freshman in 2019-20.
Meyers spent 2017-19 with the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League before beginning his collegiate career. In his second season with Fargo, the 5-foot-11, 200-pound Centre was an alternate captain and led the team with 65 points and 33 goals. He finished fifth in the league in points and third in goals, leading the Force in both categories. In 124 career regular-season USHL games, he scored 110 points (58g/52a), setting an organization record for most regular-season goals. Meyers scored eight points (5g/3a) in 19 USHL postseason games, helping Fargo win the Clark Cup for the first time as league champions in 2018.
