At least 6 workers killed and 13 others burnt due to fire at an Indian pharmaceutical factory

Survivors of the incident are blaming the company’s carelessness for the explosion that lead to the fire.

Fire that was a result of an explosion in a pharmaceutical factory in Andhra Pradesh in India resulted in the death of six people while 13 others have been hospitalized with burn wounds.

Workers of the company, Porus Laboratories Private Limited, were working night shifts on Wednesday when the explosion happened.

While five workers died there and then, one died due to serious burn injuries at the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada city, says the local police. Those injured are also in a critical situation.

The factory burnt manufactured active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The Police believes that the leakage of monomethyl nitric acid caused fire. Witnesses of the incident reported the fire got under control after two hours of effort.

Survivors have blamed the carelessness of the factory owners for the explosion. The Police has confirmed an inquiry will be conducted.
