What does the video show?
GRPD released videos from Police’s body camera, unit’s dashcam, and a mobile phone.
In one of the videos, the anonymous officer can be seen pulling over Lyoya’s vehicle. The officer decided to stop his car for illegal registration.
He got out of the car, but the officer asked him to get back inside.
He was confused, so he kept asking the officer as to what exactly he had done.
The officer then asked if he spoke English, and he rreplied with a ‘yes.’
Officer asked if he had a license, repeatedly. Lyoya got confused, and he ran from the officer.
The officer finally caught him, and laid him down, letting out the Taser. They both fought over Taser.
According to police, he accidentally turned on his body camera, during the squabble.
A footage recovered from mobile showed that the officer shot Mr. Lyoya at the back of his head.
GRPD chief, Eric Winstrom described the incident a tragedy, saying, “From my view of the video, Taser was deployed twice. Taser did not make contact.”
“And Mr Lyoya was shot in the head. However, that’s the only information that I have.”
Crump, who is representing Lyoya’s family, states, “Patrick never used violence against this officer even though the officer used violence against him in several instances.”
