FIA Cyber Crime Wing head removed from his post

LAHORE: Head of Cyber Crime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) DIG Babar Bakht Qureshi has been transferred and ordered to report to the Establishment Division.

According to a notification, Bakht Qureshi was transferred on Wednesday. The former head of CCW remained at the center stage for targeting journalists, dissidents and right activists during the last couple of years during which many journalists and rights activists were picked up.

Son of former Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) MPA, Mr Qureshi had recently got clean chit from a couple of inquiries related to misconduct for transferring CCW officials allegedly illegally and also for hurling allegations against his senior official, the then additional director general FIA Ehsan Sadiq.

Meanwhile, Director-General Intelligence Bureau (IB) Dr Mohammad Suleman has gone on a 90-day long leave.

According to reports, Dr Mohammad Suleman has suddenly gone on leave for three months after which Additional DG Abdul Khaliq Sheikh has been given the additional charge of Acting DG IB.

Suleman was appointed as the Director-General of the Intelligence Bureau in 2018 by the former government.

Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Sanaullah Abbasi and Interior Secretary Yousuf Naseem Khokar among other government officers are most likely to be replaced soon after Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif takes charge as Prime Minister of Pakistan, it is learnt through reliable sources.

The FIA had been investigating Shehbaz Sharif and his family including Hamza Shahbaz and Salman Shahbaz for Rs16 billion’s alleged money laundering for the past couple of years.

Director FIA Punjab Lahore Zone-1 DIG Dr Muhammad Rizwan and his team had already submitted a challan in the court against incoming premier but Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza couldn’t be indicted even after several months have passed. Currently, both are on pre-arrest bails from a lower court.
