The United States is examining accusations that a deadly poisonous chemical was dropped in Mariupol, according to lawmakers on a trip to Poland. However, they warned that it might take some time to figure out the nature of the strike on the embattled port city.
Biden administration and its allies will not sit idly by while Russia’s conflict with Ukraine is waged with chemical weapons, according to members of Congress.
As far as I know, the United States government and others are attempting to ascertain if that actually happened,” said Rep. Jason Crow, a Democrat from Colorado.
Using chemical weapons will not be permitted, according to President Obama, according to Crow.
Members of the House Intelligence Committee, all Democrats, are preparing for a lengthy conflict in Ukraine. At a news conference, they claimed that Congress is considering further military and other help to Ukraine.
According to reports from Mariupol, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken also addressed the issue while in Washington DC on Tuesday.
“We’re not in a position to confirm anything, I don’t think Ukrainians are either,” Blinken told reporters. “But let me say that we had credible information that Russian forces may use a variety of riot control agents, including tear gas mixed with chemical agents, that would cause stronger symptoms to weaken, incapacitate … Ukrainian fighters and civilians, as part of the aggressive campaign” in Mariupol.
“We share that information with … Ukraine and other partners,” Blinken said. “And we’re in direct conversation with partners to try to determine what actually is happening.”
