On Monday afternoon, former NFL head coach Tony Dungy attended a political ceremony with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Dungy’s appearance is currently trending on social media, which is unsurprising.
The former head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Indianapolis Colts made an appearance at a ceremony celebrating a new Florida statute that promotes fatherhood.
On Monday, the HB-7065 bill was signed in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Tony Dungy made some controversial remarks that have gone viral on social media.
Tony Dungy at DeSantis press conf: “I asked [Abe Brown], how do those young boys (19, 20, 21) get [in prison]? And he told me it’s not socio-economic, it’s not racial, it’s not education, it’s none of that. 95% of these boys did not grow up with their dad.”

Keith Olbermann, a former ESPN anchor turned political analyst, was one of the first to express his thoughts on the former NFL head coach.
“Spoiler Alert: I worked with him. Tony Dungy’s reputation is not spotless, and his Michael Sam comments disqualified him from being considered an example of loving fatherhood,” he tweeted.

Dungy’s earlier remarks towards Michael Sam are also gaining traction. In 2014, Dungy had this to say about the openly gay football player:
“I was asked whether I would have drafted Michael Sam and I answered that would not have drafted him. I gave my honest answer, which is that I felt drafting him would bring much distraction to the team. At the time of my interview, the Oprah Winfrey reality show that was going to chronicle Michael’s first season had been announced.
“I was not asked whether or not Michael Sam deserves an opportunity to play in the NFL. He absolutely does.
“I was not asked whether his sexual orientation should play a part in the evaluation process. It should not.
“I was not asked whether I would have a problem having Michael Sam on my team. I would not. …
“… I do not believe Michael’s sexual orientation will be a distraction to his teammates or his organization.
“I do, however, believe that the media attention that comes with it will be a distraction. Unfortunately we are all seeing this play out now, and I feel badly that my remarks played a role in the distraction.”
Tony Dungy, 66, was an NFL coach from 1980 until 2008.
