Since the end of November, more than 13 million poultry birds have been slaughtered in France, according to a Reuters official, as France’s biggest bird-flu catastrophe has grown swiftly.
France has seen a remarkable increase in outbreaks of the extremely contagious virus, which is thought to have been brought in by migrating wild birds. Cullings have increased since the virus spread to the major poultry-producing regions of France.
According to a farm ministry website, as of April 8, 1,230 outbreaks had been registered on farms since the first was discovered on Nov. 26. This marked a gain of more than 10% in just eight days.
