Welcome back to Beirut, Saudi envoy, says Lebanon’s Grand Mufti

Monday saw the return of Saudi Arabia’s envoy to Lebanon’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Deryan, who expressed his joy at the news.

According to a press release from Lebanon’s Grand Mufti, Lebanon does not envision itself independent of the Kingdom’s security.

And the country was proud of its Arab character, he said, citing the constitution and Taif Agreement as proof of its support for Lebanon’s return.

“The Kingdom and Arab Gulf governments are determined to preserve strong relations with Lebanon to retain the country in the Arab world,” Deryan added.

It is our goal that Arab-Lebanese ties would continue to rise to the highest possible degree of reconciliation and brotherhood.” When things are heading in the correct direction, “there will be no further conflicts with Saudi Arabia,” the mufti stated, according to the AFP.

Aoun has been requested to strive to restore Arab-Lebanese solidarity and all Lebanese citizens have been encouraged to do everything they can to guarantee that the connections between the two countries are at their best for the sake of the Lebanese people.
