The Dallas Mavericks opened Sunday with a slender chance of securing the Western Conference’s No. 3 seed.
Luka Doncic, the standout point guard, drove to the basket and collided with Spurs big man Zach Collins on the knees.
Doncic quickly expressed his discomfort and requested a timeout. He left the game after that and was almost immediately ruled out by the Mavericks due to a strained left calf.
According to NBA analyst Marc Stein, Doncic will undergo an MRI on Monday to establish the seriousness of his injury.

The Mavericks are hopeful that Doncic has not sustained a serious injury. Because the Mavericks will not be playing in the play-in round, Doncic will have over a week to heal.
Following Golden State’s victory on Sunday, Dallas will meet the No. 5 Utah Jazz in the first round. That series will begin on Saturday at the earliest
Doncic was not meant to play in this game at all. In his previous game, he received his 16th technical foul, resulting in an automatic ban for the season finale. That technical foul, however, was eventually overturned.
Looking at the past two post-seasons, the Mavericks will need Doncic at his best to make a stand in the current season.
