Post-ouster: Imran Khan likely to attend NA session tomorrow

Former prime minister Imran Khan is likely to attend the session of the national assembly (NA) tomorrow which will elect his replacement, sources told Bol News on Sunday.

Imran Khan has also summoned the meeting of the parliamentary party of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) tomorrow. The meeting will be held at Parliament House.

In a historic first, Imran Khan was removed from the office of the prime minister via a no-confidence resolution as 172 parliamentarians voted against him.

In his last address to the nation, he announced that he would not accept the new government ‘imposed’ through a US-led regime change operation in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the NA will elect the new leader of the house (Prime Minister) on Monday after the passage of no-confidence motion against Imran Khan.

PML-N President Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and PTI Vice-President Shah Mehmood Qureshi are in the run for the slot as nomination papers of both candidates have been approved.

Their papers were scrutinized and accepted by the NA Secretariat. Earlier, PTI leader Dr Babar Awan had raised objections on Shehbaz’s nomination papers, but these were rejected by the NA Secretariat.

Earlier in the day, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said that PTI would start giving resignations starting with the NA if the nomination papers of Shehbaz Sharif were not rejected as he was a prime suspect in a money laundering case.
