On Sunday, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison visited the country’s governor-general at his mansion in Canberra, local media reported.
Governor-General David Hurley represents Queen Elizabeth and must approve dissolution of parliament and call a general election.
Due to term constraints, the poll must be conducted before May 31.
Morrison’s centre-right alliance is polling behind Labor.
Morrison remarked in a pre-election opinion post that despite obstacles including fires, floods, and the COVID-19 epidemic, Australia had fared better than other countries.
He said, “But I recognise our nation has significant issues and many families are struggling.”
He said Labor’s increased taxes and deficits will harm the economy.
