BEIJING: According to recent reports released on Saturday, the authorities in Shanghai, China’s biggest metropolis, will begin lifting the lockdown in neighborhoods that have not reported any positive instances in the last 14 days after another round of Covid-19 testing.
Approximately 23,000 cases were registered in the city on Saturday, most of which were asymptomatic.
More than 26,000 square miles of Shanghai have been under lockdown since March 28, causing people to worry about food and other needs running low.
Authorities in Guangzhou have also said they would begin mass testing their 18 million citizens as well, according to CCTV. Only two confirmed cases were reported by the city on Friday.
“Precautionary,” “Controlled,” or “Locked Down” zones would be established for some regions in Shanghai based on the findings of the most recent tests, Shanghai deputy mayor Zong Ming said at a press briefing.
There will still be restrictions on public gatherings in “precautionary” locations where no illnesses have occurred in the past two weeks.
People will be able to go about their daily lives in “managed” zones while others in “shut down” areas will be forced to remain at home.
According to Zong, neighbours and front-line employees had brought her to tears at a press conference.
In terms of meeting everyone’s expectations, there is still a significant disparity. She promised to try her best to make things better.
Over 160,000 beds have been erected in over 100 temporary hospitals throughout the city to accommodate the influx of Covid-19 patients.
However, the people’ patience has been strained by the draconian limitations on mobility. The government has provided meat and veggies to certain recipients.
Many, on the other hand, are unable to get their hands on rice and other essentials because internet sellers have run out of stock and delivery services are overwhelmed.
Since the beginning of the epidemic, China has seen one of the worst outbreaks in the country.
A “zero-Covid” policy is one of just a few of nations that takes extreme pains to detect and isolate every single case.
