Following a request from Ukrainian President Zelensky last week, Australia has dispatched the first three of 20 armored military trucks it is donating to Ukraine.
The heavily reinforced Bushmaster trucks will be utilized in the conflict zone to transport personnel and civilians, not for offensive attacks.
Last week, Zelensky gave a video speech to Australia’s parliament, the 20th country he has addressed, praising the country for its unwavering support thus far.
Australia has pledged approximately AUD 190 million (£108 million; $142 million) in military and humanitarian aid, as well as imposing sanctions on Russian citizens and oil supplies.
In response to Zelensky last week, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said, “Mr. President, the people of Australia are with Ukraine in your struggle for survival.”
The Australian prime minister has stated repeatedly that liberal countries must unite to protect freedom and “the right to live free of compulsion, intimidation, and the use of the bare fist of force.”
He described Zelensky as a “lion of democracy” in Australia.
