The Patriarchs – An Elegy, a poem by poet Laureate Simon Armitage, was uploaded on the Royals’ official Instagram account, according to The Daily Mirror.
“On such an occasion, to presume to eulogize one man is to pipe up for a whole generation – that crew whose survival was always the stuff of minor miracle, who came ashore in orange-crate coracles, fought ingenious wars, finagled triumphs at sea with flaming decoy boats, and side-stepped torpedoes,” a line from the poem reads.
One year ago today, shortly afternoon, it was announced that Prince Philip had died peacefully in his sleep at Windsor Castle, only months before his 100th birthday.
The Duke of Edinburgh was laid to rest a week after his death on April 17, 2021. Due to Covid limitations, just a few individuals attended the service.
