After extinction Rebellion protesters blocked traffic on London Tower Bridge for almost four hours on Friday morning and stretched bright green banner requesting the government to “end fossil fuels now”.
Protesters brought traffic to standstill at 7.30am to protest against the London’s “funding of fossil fuels.” the bridge has reopened.
Video clip shared on social media showed a protester roping off the bridge to hang up the banner.
It was later confirmed from XR that two protesters were hanging off the bridge using suspension cords and had let off two flares.
One of those was wearing a blue jacket, who was then removed from the bridge by officers and escorted into a police van
Meanwhile, the bridge was still closed off to protesters as they were causing large build-ups of traffic in East London.
One of the London’s citizen expressed frustration at the protest. Ben Hirsch, said: “I know that climate issues are important, but why are we always targeted.”
The Uber driver told that he is “worried” that he would not make any money because of this disturbance, “My main money source is this and I use this bridge most of the time. I have to take longer routes and have less jobs,”
XR last week pledged to launch daily protests in the capital which involves “mass participation on the streets”.
The protests will begin on Saturday at Hyde Park, with protesters aiming to “disrupt business as usual.”
The XR will set days of “Action” on April 10th, April 13th and from April 15th-17th, all of which will take place in Central London.
