A mystery white foam that blanketed the surface of a watercourse in Kentucky was identified as innocuous dog shampoo, according to environmental experts.

Danny Robinson said he and his wife were finishing supper at their Lawrenceburg home Tuesday night when he spotted a torrent of white foam coming from Cedar Brook Creek.

Robinson said he kept an eye on the froth as it thickened.  And told the media, “I thought that’s unusual, that’s not right,” He added, “Within 15 minutes, the whole creek went from a few inches to a foot of thick foam,” Robinson said. “I said, ‘We gotta make some calls, this is serious.”

Investigators concluded Glo-Marr Pet Products Inc. in Lawrenceburg had a leak of dog shampoo Tuesday that entered a storm drain and ended up in the creek, according to John A. Mura, top spokesperson for the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet.

According to Mura’s statement, “The stream was measured for dissolved oxygen and pH and there was no apparent effect on wildlife.”

The leak, according to Dawn Duncan, vice president of Glo-Marr Pet Products, is the first of its sort in the companies more than 20-year existence. She claims the dog shampoo is coconut-based and will not harm wildlife or the environment.
