Jonathan D.T. Ward, an expert on Chinese global strategy and US-China competitiveness, cautioned that China has been utilising Russia to undermine the United States’ worldwide supremacy. He said that Chinese President Xi Jinping has been “recycling Moscow’s propaganda” against Ukraine while meeting with Ukrainian ministers in an attempt to play both sides.

“I think what’s really going on here, and what many people realise, is that China is preparing for conflict with the United States and Asia,” he told Fox News.

“If and when that occurs, Russia will want to be their partner on that date.”

“This is a coordinated effort to destabilise the US-led order.” They’ve been quite explicit about it in their conversations.

Ward suggested that China has not been more firmly on either side of the Ukrainian conflict “in order to fulfil their larger geopolitical goals.”

To err on the Russian side would be to alienate trade relationships with Europe that are critical to China’s economic progress, while to err on the other side would be to alienate their most steadfast friend in the protracted war against the West.

“They have a single, cooperative ideological endeavour,” Ward explained. You should realise that Jinping is repurposing Moscow’s propaganda. I believe they are on the same page when it comes to competing with the United States in both Europe and Asia.

“That’s really the deeper heart of this matter. Beijing will not throw it away since they require it.

Following a phone call between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Monday, China addressed the Ukrainian conflict in a familiarly vague manner.

“Wars finish eventually,” Yi added. The essential question is how to reflect on the sorrow while maintaining long-term security in Europe and establishing a balanced, effective, and sustainable European security framework.

“China is prepared to play a positive role in this area from an objective standpoint.”

The conversation was apparently place after Ukraine requested to talk with China. It was the first time the two countries had communicated since March 1, when Ukrainian authorities asked that China use its clout with Russia to mediate peace.
