Amara Marluke, a college freshman, was tragically slain by her on-again, off-again lover Keenan Harpole in a shooting near Portland State University’s campus this weekend, according to investigators.
“This was not a coincidental event,” Amara’s parents want the world to know. “This was domestic abuse.”
According to Amy and Bradley Marluke, the 19-year-old PSU music student had broken up with Harpole several times, but the relationship kept rekindling with Amara’s aspirations of changing the football star’s habits.
Amara alluded about discontent in her love relationship in one of her most recent Instagram posts.
“Love is like a rose,” she captioned a photo of a wilting rose arrangement.
Harpole, 20, is believed to have handed himself in to police after Amara’s corpse was discovered near the university’s dorms early Monday morning.
Harpole, a former running back for the Portland State football team, is now facing accusations of second-degree murder.
According to authorities, he was also accused with unauthorised use of a firearm and domestic violence. As of Wednesday, he was still being held without bail.
Amara’s parents told The Sun that she was much more than a domestic abuse victim: she was a singer, an activist, a martial artist, and a hardworking student.
Amy Marluke described her as “the brightest light in the room.” “It was impossible not to fall in love with her.”
