Jonathan D.T. Ward, an expert on Chinese global strategy and US-China competitiveness, cautioned that China has been utilising Russia to undermine the United States’ worldwide supremacy. He said that Chinese President Xi Jinping has been “recycling Moscow’s propaganda” against Ukraine while meeting with Ukrainian ministers in an attempt to play both sides.

“I think what’s really going on here, and what many people realise, is that China is preparing for conflict with the United States and Asia,” he told Fox News.

“If and when that occurs, Russia will want to be their partner on that date.”

“This is a coordinated effort to destabilise the US-led order.” They’ve been quite explicit about it in their conversations.

“This is a coordinated effort to destabilise the US-led order.” They’ve been quite explicit about it in their conversations.

“[About] being able to work together, expanding their military connection, and having that underlying economic relationship in which China certainly has the upper hand and so a lot of power over Russia.”

Ward claimed that China has not been more firmly on either side of the Ukrainian conflict “in order to satisfy its larger geopolitical interests.”

To err on the Russian side would be to alienate trade relationships with Europe that are critical to China’s economic progress, while to err on the other side would be to alienate their most steadfast friend in the protracted war against the West.

“They have a single, cooperative ideological endeavour,” Ward explained. You should realise that Jinping is repurposing Moscow’s propaganda. I believe they are on the same page when it comes to competing with the United States in both Europe and Asia.

“That is the true heart of the problem.” Beijing will not throw it away since they require it.

Prior to the Beijing Winter Olympics earlier this year, Jinping received President Vladimir Putin as his honorary guest, only weeks before the invasion of Ukraine.

Though the details of the conversation were kept private, Jinping declared publicly that the two countries’ cooperation had “no bounds.”

Jinping has also been vociferous in his opposition to NATO, arguing that it should have been disbanded after the collapse of the Soviet Union and supporting Putin’s notion that NATO is aiming to expand on and encircle Russia.

Following the commencement of the war, Jinping characterised Western sanctions against Russia as “sweeping and indiscriminate.”

Following a phone discussion between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and his Chinese colleague Wang Yi on Monday, China addressed the Ukrainian conflict in a familiarly ambiguous manner.
