After promising to deliver “more deadly” supplies to Ukraine, the Prime Minister is reportedly rumoured to be considering sending even more weaponry. This might entail delivering new types of weaponry. Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, the UK’s chief of defence staff, stated that the country was entering a “new phase” in terms of the sort of military equipment it could deliver.
But he didn’t say what kind of weaponry Britain may send.
“The Ukrainian army is not only holding key cities, but it is also driving the Russians to retreat,” a cabinet source said. Our assistance must adapt to this.”
According to the Times, a defence source said that Britain would unleash “longer-range depth fires.”
This might involve M270 MLRS launchers, which Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control is due to update with new components this month.
The upgrading of 44 launchers was planned for use by the British Army, and it included the addition of high-tech advances to the systems.
A new armoured cab and updated automobile with launch mechanism components are among them.
UK-specific elements such as a vehicle camera and a radar system are also being introduced.
The 44 modified launchers are also said to be capable of shooting the Precision Strike Missile, which is built in the United States.
“These weapons will position the British Army at the bleeding edge of global deep fires capability, ready to respond to long-range air defence and missile threats offered by hostile actors,” the army said on its website.
It remains to be seen if the army will be willing to send these over to Ukraine.
The AS90, a 155mm self-propelled gun with a 155mm, 39-calibre cannon barrel that can deliver a total payload of 261kg on a single target in less than 10 seconds, is also in the British arsenal.
The British Army also possesses the M270B1 Multiple Launch Rocket System.
It is reported to have pinpoint accuracy and can deliver a 200-pound high-explosive warhead to its target.
Mr Johnson may consider sending the Desert Hawk, another weapon in the British Army’s inventory, to Ukraine.
It is a tiny and adaptable unmanned aerial system built primarily for discrete tasks.
Britain has already delivered over 10,000 missiles to Ukraine and has promised to send another 6,000.
The United Kingdom is also said to have shipped over its Starstreak system, a very portable, short-range air-defense system.
This would aid in the defence of Ukrainians against aircraft bombardment.
