A lady who made news after screaming in the faces of Jet2 employees has apologised for her “unruly, aggressive, and disgusting behaviour.”
Catherine Bush, of Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, said she was “ashamed” of herself and wanted to “apologise from the bottom of my heart” for causing discomfort to airline crew and passengers on the journey from Manchester to Turkey.
After the aeroplane was forced to reroute to Vienna so Catherine could be thrown off, footage of her behaviour was released online.
Jet2 eventually issued her with a lifetime ban and a £5,000 punishment.
Catherine has already sent a long apology to Jet2 that she has shared with Yorkshire Live in order to express her regret.
She acknowledges in the email that she became so inebriated on the trip that she couldn’t control herself and that she began drinking to soothe her anxieties since she didn’t have her prescription medicine.
She also rejected reports that she attempted to open the jet door and hit people.
“First and foremost, please accept my heartfelt apologies to you, your airline, and the passengers on the LS895 trip for my rowdy, aggressive, and disgusting behaviour.”
“I am really embarrassed of myself for behaving in that way,” she wrote.
“There will never be an explanation to explain what occurred,” she said, “and I gladly lift my hands up and accept full responsibility for my conduct.”
“I realise it’s no excuse, but I have serious mental health problems, including anxiety, depression, and a personality disorder.”
“The illness makes it extremely difficult for me to control myself, my emotions, and my attitude.”
“I presently take antipsychotic medication for this, but my doctor was unable to get my prescription ready in time for my flight, so I had to make the difficult decision to travel without them.”
Catherine claims she’s never flown solo before.
“I had never travelled alone before and was going to be flying with a buddy that day, but due to Covid a day before we were set to fly, they had to cancel.”
“I then made the unfortunate choice to go alone, which I now see was a mistake.”
Catherine stated that she was nervous at Manchester Airport and decided to take a drink.
“I was really worried in Manchester Airport, so I decided to have an alcoholic drink to settle my nerves. I don’t typically drink alcohol because of my mental state, but I truly felt it would help me get through the journey because I didn’t have any medicine.”
“I now see that this was a significant and life-changing error.”
Catherine became so inebriated that she was unable to restrain herself.
“I drank wine on board the plane despite knowing I shouldn’t have, and I became so inebriated that I couldn’t control myself.”
“I battle with self-control the most of the time, and drinking exacerbated this significantly.”
“The stewardess correctly seized my booze, which was not an issue, but when I requested for a bottle of water and was refused, my rage got the best of me.”
“The entire event was really upsetting to me, forcing me to act impulsively and out of character.
“Members of staff then grabbed my arms to calm me down, but this just exacerbated the situation because I had been in an abusive relationship for 10 years and anyone touching me triggers my mental health.
“However, I did not place my hands on anyone on that trip, and I have three persons who were on the flight who can attest to the fact that I did not physically harm any passengers or crew.”
“I would want to repeat that this would never explain my actions on board that flight,” Catherine said, “but I felt I had to let you know how tough it is for me to accomplish the most basic of duties, things that regular people take for granted.”
“I’ve gotten so much hate, abuse, and harassment on social media sites since this incident occurred that it’s having a terrible influence on my mental health.”
“I’m feeling suicidal and overwhelmed by the circumstances once more.”
“I’m feeling too humiliated and ashamed of myself to handle, but at least I’m in good hands with some friends here, who are making me feel a little better about the whole thing.”
“Once again, I apologise from the bottom of my heart for causing so much pain to so many people.”
