PML-Q to support PM in no-confidence voting, Punjab CM Buzdar resigns

Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) has decided to support Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan in the no-confidence voting in the National Assembly (NA) as Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has resigned from his post, Bol News reported on Monday.

Bol News reported that PML-Q and PM Imran have entered a settlement prior to the voting on the no-confidence motion, discussion on which will start from March 31, and therefore, Punjab CM has resigned.

In return, the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will support Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as the candidate for Punjab chief minister.

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib said PM Imran has decided to nominate Pervaiz Elahi as the new chief minister.

In a tweet on Monday, he said PML-Q leader and Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi called on the premier in Islamabad and expressed full confidence of his party in the leadership of Imran Khan.

He said all the issues have been settled with the PML-Q leadership.

Earlier in the day, a delegation of the government’s representatives led by PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a meeting with Punjab Assembly Speaker and the leader of PML-Q Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi at Elahi’s residence Elahi in Islamabad.

They discussed the current political situation in the country following the opposition’s submission of the no-confidence motion in the lower house against PM Imran.

In the media talk after the meeting, PTI’s Shah Mahmood had claimed that PML-Q was still with the government.

Sources reported that the government has also agreed to give desired ministries to other coalition partners, including Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).

Meanwhile, PML-Q leader and federal minister Tariq Bashir Cheema has resigned from the post. He has announced not to vote for PM Imran.
