The Academy Awards have finally issued an official statement regarding the violence that erupted on the award show stage between Chris Rock and Will Smith.
Their statement was released via an official tweet outlining their stance on violence, and it began, “The Academy does not condone violence in any form.”
“Tonight we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world.”

For those unfamiliar with the situation, it began when award show host Chris Rock began making fun of Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith and her alopecia.
At the time, he dubbed her GI Jane 2 in response to her baldness, eliciting an enraged reaction from the actor, who could be heard on live television saying, “Keep my wife’s name out of your [expletive] mouth.”
