After viewers were surprised when Smith stepped up to Rock and slapped him during the Sunday night live broadcast, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to various news agencies that comedian Chris Rock is declining to seek charges against actor Will Smith.
After Rock, who was presenting the Oscar for best documentary feature, stated he was looking forward to seeing Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, in “G.I. Jane 2,” the incident occurred.
Pinkett-Smith revealed on Instagram in December 2021 that she suffers from alopecia, an autoimmune illness that causes hair loss. She now has a shaved head.
Smith smashed the stage and assaulted Rock shortly after the joke.

The LAPD said in a statement that it is “aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program.”
The department added: “If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report.”
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said in a statement that it wanted to focus on the Oscar winners.
“The Academy does not condone violence of any form,” the organization tweeted.

“Oh wow,” Rock responded to Smith’s attack. Rock did not physically retaliate, though the rest of his words were censored on stations in the United States.
Australians, however, got the uncensored version, in which Rock says, “Will Smith just smacked the s*** out of me.”
Smith, who is shown seated again, yells out — twice — “Keep my wife’s name out your f****** mouth.”
With roughly 2.5 million tweets, Smith’s name was the night’s biggest trending subject on Twitter. The incident dominated nearly all other trending topics, with words and phrases including “Jada,” “assault,” and “GI Jane” rising heavily.
Meanwhile, “Summer of Soul,” a documentary on the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival made by The Roots’ Ahmir Khalib Thompson, known professionally as Questlove, received the award Rock was giving.
