KARACHI: President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday said that manufacturing of tyres in Pakistan would help control smuggling.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of a tyre factory in Karachi, he expressed pleasure that investment was increasing in Pakistan.
The president said establishment of the factory was the result of joint efforts of the Chinese and Pakistani investors.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor State Bank of Pakistan Dr Reza Baqir said that the State Bank of Pakistan had introduced ‘Temporary Refinance Economic Facility’ to boost business activities in the country and loans particularly for small business were being given through the scheme on priority basis.

He said a number of steps had been taken to attract investment and promote export through value-addition in the country.
The SBP governor said that loans were being given through commercial banks for small business on priority basis to boost business activities in the country. He said that annual export of 300 million dollars was expected through the factory.
On March 11, Arif Alvi, while citing the immense potential of tourism in Swat, had urged the youths of the area to invest in tourism as well as the hospitality sectors.
The president, in a meeting with a delegation of Swat Chamber of Commerce and Industry headed by Adnan Ali, had said that jobs could be created by exploiting the opportunities in the tourism sector.
He had also emphasised the need for training the youths in hospitality, hoteling and restaurant management.
