Emmy awards will not feature Russian talent in this year International Emmy Awards competition

In support of Ukraine, the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ executive council has decided to exclude all Russian talent from this year’s International Emmy Awards competition.

This announcement was made by the organisation in a statement released on Friday, “This follows the previously announced move of suspending memberships. As well as all formal relationships with Russia-based enterprises.”

According to the International Academy, any programme that meets the following criteria is ineligible and will be withdrawn if it has already been submitted: “All programmes produced by and/or co-produced with Russia-based companies.” As well as “all programmes originally made for a Russian-owned channel, network, or streaming platform.”

“In support of Ukraine, the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences suspended the memberships of all Russian people. As well as all formal links with Russia-based companies,” the organisation said in a statement on March 1.

“Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine and everyone who has been directly touched by Russia’s invasion of the autonomous country. We pray for an end to this awful conflict as soon as possible.”

Mikhail Solodovnikov, whose Russian-owned T&R Productions controls the RT network, was removed from the International Academy’s board of directors. Moreover, his membership was suspended as a result of the decision, according to ‘Variety.’

According to a Deadline article at the time, other Russian members were also removed from the roster, including RT International’s chief of news Elizaveta Brodskaya.

There are 16 categories in which the International Emmy Award is given.
