Chaudhry brothers still with govt, says FM Qureshi

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Monday said the Chaudhry brothers of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) were still with the government.

He said this while talking to media persons after a meeting with the PML-Q leaders. A delegation of the government’s representatives led by Vice Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a meeting with Speaker Punjab Assembly and the leader of PML-Q Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi at the residence of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in Islamabad. They discussed the current political situation in the country following the opposition’s submitting no-confidence motion in the parliament against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, Tariq Bashir Cheema and Moonis Elahi were also present during the meeting.

Foreign Minister Qureshi said the talks were held in a good manner.

Pervaiz Elahi hinted of “progress” on the situation, while Moonis Elahi said the PML-Q had good relations with all sides, both individually and collectively.

Moonis Elahi said they had cordial relations with the government and soon they would give a breakthrough on the matter. Pervaiz said they would make a decision in their own interest as they had offers from both the sides. “We will decide jointly with all the allies,” he said.

Sources said requesting the Chaudhry brothers to support the PM in no-trust motion, the government delegation offered to give them chief ministership of Punjab. “The government has agreed to give the office of Punjab CM to the PML-Q,” the sources said quoting the PTI delegation.

However, while talking to media, to a query related to offer of the CM’s office to the PML-Q, the PTI vice chairman refused to comment on the matter. “Mr Chaudhry is all that we have here,” he said.
