Concerns have grown that Russian President Vladimir Putin may launch a nuclear attack on the rest of the world after a source revealed that the leader was planning a nuclear evacuation drill.
An inside source thought to be linked to ex-Kremlin intelligence and with close ties to Putin’s inner circle previously claimed Putin is suffering from multiple medical conditions and that the Russian death toll is significantly higher than reported.
According to a recent post on the Telegram channel General SVR, Russian senior political figures “were warned on behalf of the president that, possibly in the near future, they will participate in practising evacuation in the event of a nuclear war.”
According to a recent post on the Telegram channel General SVR, Russian senior political figures “were warned on behalf of the president that, possibly in the near future, they will participate in practising evacuation in the event of a nuclear war.”
“Everyone who received this warning was taken aback and concerned by the president’s initiative.” “However, everyone, without exception, confirmed their willingness to participate.”
The claim has sparked speculation that Putin is planning a nuclear attack as a result of his invasion of Ukraine not going as planned.
But what would happen if a nuclear bomb hit Ireland?
A terrifying interactive map depicts how much of Ireland would be destroyed if a nuclear bomb was dropped.
Users of the map can see how a potential nuclear weapon would affect the country, including what would happen if the bomb exploded in their hometown and the number of fatalities and injuries that could result.
Alex Wellerstein, a nuclear weapons historian, created the website NUKKMAP to “help people visualise nuclear weapons and get a sense of the scale of the bombs.”
“We live in a world where nuclear weapons issues are regularly on the front pages of our newspapers, yet most people still have a very poor understanding of what an exploding nuclear weapon can actually do,” he explained.
“Some believe they destroy the entire world at once, while others believe they are no different from conventional bombs. The reality is somewhere in the middle: nuclear weapons can cause massive destruction and massive loss of life, but the consequences are still understandable on a human scale.”
The map allows you to select from a variety of nuclear weapons that have already been produced, tested, or used.
We used the Topol (SS-25), which is currently in Russia’s arsenal, to see what would happen if it was launched at various locations throughout Ireland.
The warhead weighs 800 kilotons and can deliver a payload of 1,000 kg over a distance of 11,000 kilometres.
