The ‘Doomsday plane’ flies back over Hampshire as it returns to the United States following Joe Biden’s visit

On its way back to the United States, a USAF ‘Doomsday plane’ flew over Hampshire once more. After departing from RAF Mildenhall in Cambridgeshire, the Boeing 747 E4-B aircraft flew over Southampton and Winchester late last night (March 26).

The military plane was spotted flying over the Atlantic. The ‘Flying Pentagon,’ as it is known, is designed to stay in the air for days.

The plane is thought to have taken off from the United States as part of a convoy carrying President Joe Biden to Europe. The aircraft, with the callsign Grim99, was first spotted when it arrived in England on March 23.

Upon arrival, the craft flew over the New Forest before heading over Southampton. The plane then flew into West Sussex after crossing the Hampshire border near Clanfield and Petersfield. The craft proceeded west of London before heading north toward Cambridgeshire.

President Biden travelled to Europe a few days ago for a series of summits. During his visit to Europe, he will attend an emergency NATO summit, a G7 summit, and a European Council meeting in Brussels.

Given the ongoing situation with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it’s not surprising that the Grim99: Nightwatch has joined the convoy. The airborne command post is a mobile war room on wheels that is thought to house military strategists and analysts.

In the worst-case scenario, these are the people who would assist Biden during the early stages of a nuclear war. According to the Mirror, the aircraft has 18 bunks and six bathrooms, as well as a briefing room, conference room, work areas, and executive quarters.

Its windows are said to be wire mesh, and it has thermal and nuclear shielding in case of a blast. It has three decks and a capacity of 112 people. It can also be refuelled while flying.

It is not the first time that different military aircraft than usual have been spotted flying over the count in recent weeks. Residents in Portsmouth noticed RAF jet planes flying over the city around 4.45 p.m. on February 24. The jets turned out to be RAF Typhoons that had flown south to train in weather that was unsuitable elsewhere.

Royal Navy Hawk jets flew over the city last week as part of a farewell flight after the Royal Navy announced their retirement after 40 years of service.
