Pak vs Aus: National stars who displayed incredible performace against Aussies

Despite losing the historic Test against Australia at home by 1-0, national players performed exceptionally great, giving hard times to the Kangaroos.

Despite criticism from fans and cricket analysts regarding team selection and the “lack of a winning recipe,” some players stood out.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on its official Twitter account, shared a list of players who shone during the series.

Skipper Babar Azam, Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Azhar Ali and Nouman Ali were among such players.

Here is an overview of their performance:

  • Abdullah Shafique — 397 runs
  • Babar Azam — 390 runs
  • Imam-ul-Haq — 370 runs
  • Azhar Ali — 300 runs
  • Shaheen Shah Afridi — nine wickets
  • Nauman Ali — nine wickets

Azhar reached the 7000-rum milestone during the final Test match and has joined the elite batsmen of the country.

Babar and Shafique made a record-breaking stand in the second Test. The two batsmen collectively played 500 balls in a single inning, making it the longest final inning partnership in the history of Test cricket.

Babar individually set a number of records with his outstanding inning of 196 during the fourth inning of the second Test. He played 425 balls and stayed on the crease for 607 minutes.

He is also the only batsman in Asia to have played a long inning of 10 hours. He was only 36 minutes short of surpassing former England skipper Mike Atherton, who has set the record of playing the longest inning in the history of Test cricket.

The 28-year-old is also the only captain to have played the longest inning in the Test match.
