The decomposed bodies of a woman and her three-year-old twins were discovered inside a car, prompting COPS to launch an investigation.
On March 20, police were responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle when they discovered the gruesome discovery around 10.20 p.m.
The Cadillac was parked at the Manatee Cove apartments in Melbourne, Florida, but police say the deceased woman was from St Lucie County, 65 miles south.
Andrea Langhorst, 35, was identified by police on Monday.
According to WPTV, detectives determined that Langhorst is the mother of the twins, Olivia and Adam Dryer.
Langhorst may have been living out of the vehicle, according to evidence.
No official cause of death for any of the victims has been released.
“It’s still being investigated,” said Lt Shaun Hill, a spokesman for the Melbourne Police Department.
“We don’t have any information on how long they stayed.”
Randy Langhorst, Langhorst’s father, told the local newspaper Florida Today that he had called police the weekend before after not hearing from his daughter since March 11.
“We had been looking for her but had not heard from her. That was out of character for her “He stated.
“We wouldn’t be in contact with her on a daily basis, but this was for a while.”
He believes drugs may have played a role in Langhorst’s death.
“She was a free spirit, as sharp as a whip, and stunning, but she marched to the beat of her own drummer. It’s simply a tragedy.”
Langhorst had a history of drug arrests and had attended drug court, according to St Lucie County court records.
Meanwhile, the twins’ father is being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex while awaiting trial in an unrelated case, according to Florida Today.
Detectives are still looking into the deaths, and autopsies for Langhorst and her toddlers have been scheduled.
Randy Langhorst described the twins as “her pride and joy.”
“All I can think is that maybe…maybe she fell asleep in the car because it was running, or maybe the fumes overwhelmed them. I’m not sure.”
