As the first of Putin’s navy officers falls, the leader of the Black Sea fleet is’shot dead’ by Ukrainian forces

In yet another blow to Vladimir Putin’s forces, UKRAINIAN forces claim to have killed the deputy commander of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet.

Captain Andrey Paliy, 51, is the only senior Russian navy official to be killed thus far in the conflict with Ukraine.

When he died, he was allegedly participating in Russian naval attacks near the port city of Mariupol, though the actual circumstances of his demise are unknown.

Although Moscow has yet to announce his death, fellow Russian Konstantin Tsarenko, secretary of the public council at Sevastopol Nakhimov Naval School, appeared to corroborate it.

Paliy was also slain early on Sunday, according to Ukrainian official Anton Gerashchenko, who did not provide any other details.

Paliy was born in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, but refused to take the Ukrainian military oath in 1993, preferring to serve in Russia’s Northern Fleet instead.

He had previously served on the Russian nuclear missile cruiser “Peter the Great” and as the deputy head of the Russian naval academy in Sevastopol, Crimea.

It comes as Ukraine claims to have assassinated a fifth Russian general, severely eroding Putin’s army’s resolve.

Lieutenant-General Andrei Mordvichev, commander of the 8th Combined Arms Army, was killed in action at Kherson, in southern Ukraine.

On Wednesday, Major-General Oleg Mityaev, 47, was killed in Mariupol, bringing the total number of Russian officers killed in the war to 13.
