A DOGSITTER has described the horrific injuries she sustained after being bitten 800 times by a savage dog assault, which left her with skin hanging off her face.
Jacqueline Durand was supposed to celebrate her 22nd birthday just days after she was mauled and put into a medically induced coma in December.
She is now coming out about the heinous incident, recalling how the German Shepard and Boxer-Pitbull mix she was dogsitting assaulted her as soon as she opened the door.
Jacqueline was bitten almost 800 times, lost 30% of her blood, had to be resuscitated numerous times, and was placed in a medically induced coma for a week, according to her mother Shirley Durand.
“I thought I was going to die,” Jacqueline said to CBS.
After arriving 37 minutes later, first responders transported her to the hospital’s trauma ward.
When asked by CBS why they didn’t fire the dogs sooner to save Jacqueline, they claimed it was because they didn’t have enough time. “were only able to see [her] legs and were not immediately aware of the extent of her injuries.”
The dogs kept the officers at bay while Jacqueline screamed for help, according to their bodycam footage.
She stated today that she is ready to show who she is.
“I can’t be scared of it,” she said.
She is, however, still “speechless,” as she told CBS after her near-death experience.
“After every meet and greet I had, I always felt the same with those other dogs and they don’t change their attitude from the time that I met them to the time that I go there for the first time.”
However, she is urging dog owners to “know their animals and be able to communicate with their sitters how they are.”
The heartbroken owners said in a statement to CBS that they would “never knowingly put anyone in harm’s way, and were shocked by what happened at [their] home.”
However, a warning notice on the front door, according to the Durand family lawyer, says otherwise.
“…the Bishops knew that both of these dogs had acted aggressively to people arriving at the front door.”
The sign read: “Crazy dogs. Please don’t knock or ring the bell. Call or text instead.”
Despite the warning on the entrance, the dogs’ owners stated the dogs had never been violent before.
“None,” Justin Bishop told police.
Jacqueline had previously met the dogs who had attacked her and described them as “lovely.”
She still wants to work with animals and potentially become a dog trainer in the future.
Her father finds her upbeat attitude inspiring.
“The sky’s the limit.”
