I’d like to think my skin isn’t too awful and has a few positive memories for a 40-year-old mother of three who is overworked and overtired.
But I can’t deny that the “11s” between my eyes are becoming deeper by the minute.
I work long hours, rarely get more than three or four hours of sleep per night, and am always up with the kids early. I’m concerned that it appears on my face, and like most women, I’d like to delay the onset of wrinkles.
Botox is the obvious remedy. But, as this is usually done every three months, I don’t need to add another ongoing expense to my expenses.
Plus, the prospect of needles probing my face is unappealing.
So it aroused my curiosity when I observed TikTok users half my age raving about miracle wrinkle patches.
The coveted item is a £23.95 pack of 144 Frownies overnight wrinkle patches, which can be found on amazon.co.uk and frownies.co.uk.
@frowniesfamily has racked up 181,000 followers and 10 million views for the miracle plasters called “Botox skin patches” after becoming viral on TikTok.
The patches, which claim to smooth the face and decrease wrinkles while you sleep, work by retraining the facial muscles to prevent wrinkles from forming.
They are designed to prevent and eliminate wrinkles on the skin caused by repetitive actions like frowning, squinting, or smiling.
The stick-on patches act like a cast for your muscles, keeping them flat and smooth for hours and preventing you from making wrinkle-causing expressions.
The muscles should eventually stop moving in that direction.
Frownies have already received over 10,000 five-star ratings, with twenty-somethings adopting them as a preventative step and older ladies reporting they lessen the look of creases.
However, the internet sensation has been kept a Hollywood secret for years.
Raquel Welch, 81, a Hollywood star, attributes her wrinkle-free skin to them.
While Kris Jenner, 66, the Kardashian clan’s mother, revealed them as her beauty secret. Kim, 41, Khloe, 37, and Kourtney, 42, she alleges, have all used them — and that ex-husband Bruce, now Caitlyn Jenner, 72, was occasionally involved as well.
Well, if they’re good enough for the Kardashians, I’m willing to give them a try.
I’ve tried a wide range of creams and lotions, from the inexpensive to the high-end.
Facials, deep-tissue face massages, and workarounds like face tape have also been explored.
But nothing has been worth buying again. The patches resemble small triangle plasters that you rip apart according to how many you need.
It is recommended that you massage the skin before application to increase circulation.
Then, with one hand, smooth the skin and glue them on with the other, dab some warm water on the shining side of each to make them adhesive. They were really simple to use.
I put them on around 10 p.m. and went to bed half an hour later, as it is ideal to wear them overnight. I was concerned that they would be too unpleasant to wear in bed, but they were barely noticeable and had no effect on my sleep.
They also didn’t feel stiff or irritating. You might easily turn them on while working at home for a few hours.
Margaret Kroesen, an American, came up with the brilliant concept in 1889 after noticing her concert pianist daughter Alice had developed unattractive frown lines.
The formula has remained the same throughout the years, despite changes in the style and packaging.
You can get them for your brow, between your eyes, corner of your lips, lip line, and under your eyes. I was eager to see the outcomes when I awoke.
I just wiped the places with warm water and pulled them away. It was painless and quick. According to Frownies UK, the patches can reduce new lines in as little as three nights, but deeper wrinkles may take longer.
You continue to use them until the line is no longer visible, at which point you should stop. Reapply the patch as soon as the line begins to form again.
I was blown away with only one use. My skin was a little red when I first peeled them off, comparable to how it would be after a brow hot wax. My 11s, on the other hand, were far less noticeable and shallower right away. I was blown away.
The lines were far less prominent than the night before. It was as if I’d gone back in time. I appeared revitalised and, dare I say, younger.
Consultant dermatologist Dr Anton Alexandroff says: “Whilst there is no hard scientific evidence that these patches work, there is lots of anecdotal evidence from people who believe they have a positive effect on fine lines so there is no harm in giving them a go. Any effect, though, is likely to be mild and temporary.”
The patches are also terrific value – the 144 in the box would last 36 nights if you use four per night, and I doubt I’ll need that many.
The frown lines returned a little as the day progressed, but I’ll absolutely keep wearing the patches. I’m hoping that “11” lines will be gone in a few weeks. You might even make use of them the night before a big function. I think it’s fantastic that there might be a technique to get rid of wrinkles without using needles or dangerous chemicals. This is a routine that I can absolutely get behind.
According to online reviews, the product can make you look 20 years younger. Maybe that’s a stretch, but I’ve clearly shaved off a few years, and I’m content with that.
I was so delighted that I purchased a tube of Frownies cellulite cream and a bottle of the company’s new “stem cell” serum, which claims to activate skin stem cell regeneration and reduce the depth of crow’s feet wrinkles in just two weeks.
In short time, I hope to be appearing younger than my 40 years. In the meantime, I’m relieved that my “11s” have aged.
