After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Peter Dutton slammed Vladimir Putin as “paranoid, cynical, and ruthless.”
As Russian soldiers struggle to advance because to intense Ukrainian opposition, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu claimed Putin’s war was a “miscalculation” that may lead to his doom after 22 years in power.
Mr Dutton also went after Russian President Vladimir Putin, claiming that he was a spy for the Russian secret service, the KGB, in Dresden, Germany, and afterwards at home.
He’s never accepted the Cold War’s conclusion. Indeed, he’s best seen as an unreconstructed creation of the Soviet Union’s sword and shield, the KGB,’ Mr Dutton said in a lecture on Wednesday at the United States Studies Centre in Sydney.
‘He’s been a neurotic and vicious operator from the Dresden desk to the Kremlin.’ It should come as no surprise that he acts the way he does.
It’s becoming evident that Putin’s gamble in Ukraine was a blunder. It has the potential to destroy Peter Dutton himself. He holds a long-standing grudge against the West, particularly the United States.
‘And he wants nothing more than to rebuild an imperial Russian empire in which he is the sole ruler.’ That much is self-evident.
‘A prosperous, democratic, Europe-oriented Ukraine has no place in his twisted and cynical worldview.’
‘As a result, he has set out to destroy it. It’s becoming evident that Putin’s gamble in Ukraine was a blunder. It has the potential to ruin the guy himself.’
Putin launched an invasion of Ukraine on February 24 after assembling forces since November.
Despite having a significantly greater and larger military force, his soldiers have struggled to capture major cities due to Ukrainian opposition supported by Western weaponry.
