A SKILLED ENTREPRENEUR who began his own firm from his bedroom when he was 16 years old has now sold it for a tidy sum of £22 million.

Lee McNeil founded Tebex, a technology firm, from his home in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire, as an internet platform selling goods for the Minecraft computer game.

“From the moment we first met the team at Overwolf it was apparent of their dedication to the UGC market and ensuring creators get paid for their hard work,” he said.

“Joining Overwolf enables Tebex to expand its offerings to more game servers, publishers, and more importantly, allows us to further grow the communities of our existing game servers. Their commitment to helping us grow the game server industry will push Tebex into our next growth chapter.”

Overwolf, based in Tel Aviv, Israel, is a software platform that allows developers to construct video game extensions. It is estimated that it has around 95,000 artists and 31 million monthly active users.

“Tebex shares our constant dedication to developing methods to enable gaming communities and game companies that wish to encourage in-game producers who generate content on top of their games,” stated Uri Marchand, CEO of Overwolf.

“As long-time supporters of in-game app producers and mod writers, we are thrilled to collaborate with a new creative category – server owners – to continue to innovate in the industry. We will be able to reach more artists and help them make a sustainable income for their work by combining our industry-leading operations with Tebex’s technology and enthusiastic staff.”
