Who is PC Lissie Harper, Andrew Harper’s widow?

NEWLY-WEDS Andrew and Lissie Harper’s happily ever after was shattered when he died four weeks after their wedding in 2019.

Lissie has subsequently advocated for the passage of Harper’s Law, which would impose mandatory life terms for anyone who murder emergency personnel.

Who is PC Andrew Harper’s widow Lissie Harper?

Lissie Harper, the widow of Thames Valley Police officer Andrew Harper, is now 30 years old.

When PC Harper, 28, was dragged for more than a mile behind a car and killed, the couple was newlyweds.

In August 2019, he became caught in a tow rope while attempting to thwart the theft of a quad bike near Reading.

PC Harper’s legs became entangled as the getaway vehicle accelerated to 60 mph, and he was unable to release himself.

After two days of deliberation, the three adolescent guys implicated in the heist were charged with manslaughter.

“The way Andrew was robbed of his life, we all know, was savage and unexplainable,” Lissie told reporters following the judgement.

“I am really upset with today’s outcome.”

“I now have my own life sentence to carry,” she said, “and trust me when I say it will be a much more agonising, soul-destroying, and difficult path than someone facing a meagre amount of years in jail would suffer.”

Lissie has since relentlessly worked for Harper’s Law to be approved, which would make anyone who unlawfully murders an emergency services worker a life prisoner.

Lissie met with Prime Minister Boris Johnson in November 2021, and the bill was approved by the government.

Harper’s Law, on the other hand, is rather contentious since it makes no distinction between manslaughter and murder.

When did Lissie and Andrew get married?

The pair met as children and married in July 2019 at Ardington House in Oxfordshire.

The Thames Valley Police officer was assassinated four weeks later by minors Henry Long, Jessie Cole, and Albert Bowers.

When Andrew and his wife married, he sent her a sweet letter that read: “Life is a slick ride. Take my hand in yours.”

“Oh my wonderful baby, I can’t believe I’m spending this day without you,” Lissie said on Facebook on what would have been his 29th birthday in April 2020.

“I walked at our favourite spot, I sat in the sun and I remembered all of your special birthdays we did spend together.

“I know you were there with me and will always be in my heart forever more. My love is yours always.”

What has Lissie said about PC Harper’s death?

In a devastating letter to her unfortunate spouse on what would have been their first anniversary, Lissie talked of “endless sweeping gloom.”

She termed her husband’s killers “senseless, barbarous, and violent” and characterised him as “selfless, beautiful, and valiant.”

Grieving Lissie commended her husband, saying he “wanted to keep everyone safe” and “went above and beyond.”

In an ITV programme, she described how her sorrow and anguish motivated her Harper’s Law campaign.

“The documentary itself is a difficult watch but portrays a wonderful tale,” she said on Facebook.

“I felt compelled to show the public the wrongdoings that occurred in those courtrooms.”

“Some of you may watch, some of you may not,” she continued.

“In any case, this is the conclusion of two years of labour, sweat, and tears, and I want to thank my team and everyone who has supported me, including my great family, friends, and strangers…

“This is the final media push before Harper’s Law wins royal assent, which I hope happens shortly.”

Lissie is interviewed in the ITV documentary The Killing Of PC Harper: A Widow’s Fight For Justice, which chronicles her journey with Harper’s Law.
