Murdered’ Logan

‘Murdered’ Logan Mwangi, 5, was’made to face the wall for 30 minutes and given cereal for dinner as “punishment” by his mother and stepfather.’

TRAGIC Logan Mwangi was forced to face the wall for 30 minutes and was denied food as a “punishment” by his mother and stepfather, according to court testimony.

The five-year-old boy was discovered with horrific injuries after being dumped in the Ogmore River near his Bridgend home like “fly-tipped” garbage.

His mother, Angharad Williamson, 30, his stepfather, John Cole, 40, and a 14-year-old boy have all been charged with murder and perverting the course of justice.

Williamson and Cole subjected the youngster to cruel displicines at home before his death, Cardiff Crown Court heard today.

“They would try and talk to him to figure out what was going on, and if that didn’t work, they would make him stand against the wall on the stairs towards the bannister for 30 minutes at a time,” family friend Callum Williams said.

“He was about five or six years old.”

Logan was also allegedly barred from eating takeaway food by his mother and stepfather if he misbehaved, and was instead given cereal for dinner.

Logan was last seen alive on July 27 when he appeared on a Facetime call with Cole, according to Mr Williams.

According to the witness, he was “sitting on the stairs colouring a numbers book” and appeared “very happy and joyful.”

Just four days later, jurors were informed that the youngster had died.

The court also heard how, just months before Logan died, Williamson was referred to social services due to concerns for his safety.

After apparently falling down the stairs at home, the youngster suffered a broken elbow and a dislocated collar bone.

According to reports, Williamson attempted to “fix” her son’s injuries rather than taking him to the hospital.

Logan was then referred to Bridgend Council’s social services team and a multi-agency safeguarding hub, according to a health visitor.

Logan was dumped in the river after suffering a blunt force trauma, the court heard previously.

He had 56 external injuries and a gruesome list of internal injuries consistent with a “great height fall” or a “high velocity road traffic collision.”

Logan had been battered so badly that his tongue was bruised, but tragically, he was still alive for several hours after his liver and bowel were torn, according to reports.

Jurors were told that he was forced to do push-ups as a “punishment” and that he was forbidden from eating KFC with his family.

Cole allegedly told him to “get back in position” and restart the timer if he fell.

The stepfather would bully Logan, but Williamson was said to have done nothing to stop her partner.

‘GET MY BABY BACK’

Williamson dialled 911 in the early hours of July 31, 2021, and began “hyperventilating” down the phone while falsely reporting her son missing.

She could be heard screaming “Help me please” before telling the call handler she woke up to find her son was not there in a clip shown to jurors.

“Get me my baby back!” she screams at one point.

According to Prosecutor Caroline Rees QC, she “played the part of a distraught mother to the best of her acting abilities.”

Jurors were told she tried to accuse a woman she disliked of “kidnapping” Logan in a “callous attempt to send the police off in the wrong direction.”

“It might sound like a heartfelt distress call from a mother reporting her child missing,” Ms Rees said. However, with access to the CCTV and evidence that she knew exactly what was going on that night, the prosecution claims that the 999 call was indeed chilling.

“It demonstrates Williamson’s willingness to lie and her ability to put on a show to save her own skin, even when dealing with the death of her own five-year-old child.”

According to police bodycam footage, “dramatic” Williamson was still putting on a “hideous show” when officers arrived at the family home.

CHILLING FOOTAGE

Logan was discovered by police wearing mismatched pyjamas in the river a short time later and was taken to the hospital.

During her stay, Williamson allegedly continued her web of lies, telling one nurse that “she wished she had taught him to swim.”

She was awake, according to the court, when Cole and the 14-year-old boy were seen on CCTV leaving the house in the early hours of the morning.

The stepfather has since admitted to jurors that he was carrying Logan’s dead body in his arms during the chilling footage.

HORRIFIC INJURIES

Jurors became agitated after learning of Logan’s horrific injuries prior to his death.

A blunt force trauma caused 56 external injuries to the youngster’s head, face, torso, arms, and legs.

Logan, sadly, is thought to have survived for several hours after the assault, implying that he may have been saved.

Dr. John Williams discovered him covered in bruises, including on his scalp and tongue, in his home office.

According to the court, he suffered “catastrophic” abdominal injuries, including a 5.5cm by 3cm tear on his liver and a second rip on his bowel.

Jurors were also told that Logan’s collar bone had been broken in the weeks leading up to his death, implying that he had been abused “over a long period of time.”

Ms. Rees stated: “The injuries should be interpreted as inflicted by blows, kicks, or impact with a weapon. The deep scalp injury is consistent with blunt force trauma as well.”

Logan is thought to have been murdered at home before a “elaborate charade” to cover up his death was devised.

Allegedly, all three defendants, who deny murder, “prioritised their own self-preservation above all else.”

Cole and Williamson both deny causing or allowing a child’s death, but Cole admits to perverting the course of justice by relocating Logan’s body.
