ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will launch the Micro Health Insurance Programme on Wednesday during his day-long visit to Peshawar.
Under the Micro Health Insurance Programme, the government will provide free medical services worth Rs1 million annually to 7.5 million families in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The prime minister will meet K-P chief minister and the governor and is also expected to hold meetings with the political leadership in Peshawar.
He will attend the registration ceremony of Ehsaas Ration Discount Programme in Peshawar where his Special Assistant for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection Dr Sania Nishtar will give a detailed briefing.
The Ehsaas Ration Discount Programme will provide groceries to about 20 million families (up to 130 million people), belonging to the economically weaker sections.
The prime minister will also interact with the representatives of the traders association and Karyana (grocery) Alliance.
PM Imran Khan will distribute cheques under K-P government’s programme of financial assistance to Imams of Jamia mosques.
Earlier, the ECP had warned PM Imran against visiting K-P ahead of the local bodies elections.
The electoral body stated that legal action under Sections 233 and 234 of the Election Act will be taken against those violating the code of conduct.

Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Information and Higher Education Kamran Khan Bangash clarified that Prime Minister’s visit to Peshawar was official and in no way aimed at influencing the local bodies elections.
Referring to ECP’s notice on Imran’s visit to Peshawar ahead of the local bodies elections, Bangash said that the visit was part of the day-to-day affairs of the state and there were no restrictions on it.
He further stated that Prime Minister Imran Khan would only attend an official function at the Governor House, apart from which he would not attend any election or public gathering in Peshawar.
Bangash said that ECP was a constitutional body and was profoundly respected.
