Marri slams govt over high petrol prices despite global oil price drop

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Central Information Secretary and MNA Shazia Atta Marri said that petrol is being sold at the highest prices in the country despite a decline in the global market.

She questioned in a statement issued on Friday that why Imran Khan’s government is selling petrol at the highest rates to people of the country while global oil prices have been dropped.

Marri said that Prime Minister Imran Khan should be ready to see a series of protests over the rising prices of petroleum products starting from December 10.

Marri added that the PPPP’s call for staging protest against rising petrol prices will prove to be the last nail in the coffin for the ruling government. She said that neighbouring country India has reduced the petrol prices and also reducing government taxes, but PTI government is not providing any relief to the people of Pakistan.

It is the injustice and height of oppression that Imran Khan’s ruling government is receiving up to Rs27 from the people on per liter on account of petroleum levy. She demanded that the ruling government should reduce the petrol prices in the light of global reduction and taxes should also be reduced immediately. She said that it is fraud with the people of Pakistan that the lowest per capita income country like Pakistan was being compared with the most prosperous countries in the prices of petroleum products.

While criticising the government, she said that today the inflation in Pakistan has reached its highest level and the prices of food items are out of reach of the people but government has no plan to reduce people’s miseries.
