LAHORE: A robbery suspect has allegedly been tortured to death by police in Lahore, raising eyebrows over the police department’s method of investigation even under this day and age.

The victim was identified as Zaroon. According to police sources, the victim was apprehended by Factory Area police at a picket and they took him to police station for further investigation.

Sources added that police allegedly subjected Zaroon to severe torture and his health deteriorated and he died in custody.

DIG Operations Lahore Ahsan Younis taking notice of the event claimed that the victim was involved in a robbery case registered at Nishter Colony police station. According to DIG, post mortem of the victim would be conducted and strict action will be taken against the accused police officials if they found guilty.

The DIG further shared that an inquiry committee has already been formed comprising of SP Cantonment and SP Security to look into the issue. We have also asked for a judicial inquiry, he added.
