Athletes from different K-P districts compete during under-21 games

PESHAWAR: Athletes from Peshawar, Swat, Khyber, Karak and Charsadda won gold medals in different events of the under-21 games played at the Peshawar Sports Complex.

In weightlifting, Swat’s Roohullah surprised everyone with a first-ever gold medal for his district on the first day of the event.

Zain, another athlete from Swat, finished runner up, while Mardan’s Shoaib Khan won bronze along with Karak’s Mansoor Hussain.

Peshawar’s Muhammad Ishan and Arbaz Khan won gold and silver medals respectively in the 61-kg category. Khawar from the Bajaur district won the silver medal while Karak’s Zeeshan grabbed the bronze.

The gold medal in the 67-kg category went to Karak’s Muhammad Qasim. Abdullah of Swabi won silver while Abbas Yousaf of Bajaur and Swat’s Sohail won bronze medals.

In the judo competitions, Peshawar, Khyber and Charsadda claimed gold medals in the 50-kg, 55-kg and 63-kg competitions.

Salman Khan of Khyber district won the first prize in the 5-0 kg weightlifting category on day one. Muhammad Noor of Kurram bagged the silver medal while Amjad Ayaz of Bannu and Noor Ahsan of Kohistan claimed bronze.

In the 55-kg weight category, Charsadda’s Huzaifa won gold, followed by Adil of Malakand with silver. Mardan’s Kashif Khan and Khyber’s Shakirullah won bronze medals.

The gold medal, in the 63-kg event, went to Peshawar’s Fawad. Kamran Khan of Khyber won silver, and Malakand’s Tariq and Charsadda’s Salman claimed joint bronze medals.

In the karate competitions, Yahya, a young player from Peshawar, won the gold medal. Yahya, who dreams of making it to the national Karate team, defeated Zahid of Karak district in the final competition.

In the table tennis events, 175 players from 35 districts of K-P participated at the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education gymnasium. In a one-sided match between Upper Chitral and Battagram, the former outclassed their opponents by winning 3-0 and qualifying for the second round.

In other matches, Buner beat Kohat with a 3-0 victory, while South Waziristan defeated Hangu 3-2 after a tough contest. Shangla was the other winning team in the Table Tennis events. Swat, Nowshera, Mardan and Charsadda also qualified for the second round without any competition.

In the hockey matches, played at Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex in Charsadda, Tank defeated Mohmand by 3-0 while Charsadda thrashed Torghar districts with a 9-1 victory.
