PESHAWAR: Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has reiterated his party’s commitment to the restoration of democracy and people rights on the 54th Youm-e-Tasees of PPP in Peshawar on Tuesday.
Addressing a massive crowd at Peshawar’s new centre for political gatherings Kabutar Chowk, Bilawal paid rich tributes to PPP founder and his grandfather Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, and Benazir Bhutto.
“Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto laid the foundation of PPP in 1967 to get rid of the dictatorial policies. Today, the same policies of the selected and incompetent rulers have made the lives of the poor people miserable,” Bilawal Bhutto claimed.
PPP activists from KP, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir attended the function. The emotionally charged workers chanted slogans in favour of their party and leadership and termed the meeting a referendum against the government. The speakers claimed they would form the next government in centre and provinces.
The PPP chairman urged the country’s masses to stand up against the ‘anti-people’ rulers for the future of Pakistan.
“Our government was people’s friendly. We initiated Benazir Income Support Programme for the people of K-P in the past, and it is Bhutto’s party that will take people out of financial miseries,” Bilawal Bhutto added.
Bilawal also came hard on the PTI government by calling it the ‘IMF’s government’.
“The rich are getting richer by day while poor are suffering. Imran Khan had promised to commit suicide instead of going to IMF, however, people are forced to commit suicide due to the wrong economic policies of the government. The IMF is dictating this government,” he claimed.
The PPP chairman rejected the deal between the federal government and the IMF and vowed to challenge it in court and oppose it on the streets.
“The parliament had not approved the IMF deal under which the State Bank of Pakistan would not be answerable to the parliament or any court, making it a slave of the IMF,” he claimed.
Bilawal also rejected the government’s plans of introducing the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
“This is the RTS part two. We want clean and fair elections and our lawyers will challenge this decision. PPP will not allow the rulers to ruin the system. There should be separate elections for overseas Pakistanis to allow them electing their true representatives,” Bilawal said.
He also talked about the government’s plan of giving NRO to Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav and peace talks with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
“Imran Khan took credit for saying “absolutely not” the US but he is now issuing NRO to the Indian spy without taking the parliament in confidence,” he said.
“All martyrs of the Army, Police and civilians rendered utmost sacrifice of their lives but now the ruling elite is holding negotiations with terrorists and killers of Pakistanis. Who empowered them to talk with the terrorists and what are the terms of reference of these talks?” Bilawal questioned.
Other leaders of the PPP, including Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, central leaders of the party Syed Khurshid Shah, Syed Nayyar Bukhari, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Nisar Khuhro, KP chapter president Najumdin Khan and others also addressed the gathering.
