LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has barred Lahore Race Club from issuing final notification of the appointment of club directors and stewards on a petition against their selection without holding any election.

Justice Jawad Hassan issued an eight-page interim written order on the petition of Tariq Aziz and others challenging the appointment of office bearers without an election.

The court issued a restraining order on the appointment of other directors including former governor Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood and former minister Syeda Abida Hussain.

Petitioner’s lawyer Faisal Naqvi argued that despite the demand of seven candidates, the election was not held and ten candidates were declared unopposed winners.

The lawyer pointed out that the election of Lahore Race Club must be held in accordance with the law and the appointment of uncontested directors should be declared null and void.

The court will hold further proceeding on December 2.
