Just when the world was limping back to normal, the new variant of SARS-CoV-2, known as ‘Omicron’, has sent shockwaves around the world. Now, with the WHO announcement coming during the festive season, people have taken the meme route once again to find some solace.

The new variant following the Delta outbreak, recently spreading in South Africa, has been identified by the Network for Genomics Surveillance in South Africa. According to the early findings, this variant may be even more transmissible than the highly infectious Delta form, and current vaccinations may be less effective against it.

As people read about the warning and symptoms, they took to Twitter to share their feelings of ‘deja vu,’ with many sarcastically memes that they are being “stuck in an eternal cycle.” People have created a movement called “My Borders” as many countries have begun to seal their borders again, and many believe another lockdown will follow shortly.
