ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Wednesday that nothing could be pettier than using religious beliefs for vested political interests.
Speaking at an Interfaith Peace Conference, the information minister said that Islam is a religion of peace and it was spread through the message of Sufis rather than swords. He urged the clergy to condemn the extremist narratives that are maligning the message of Islam.

Chaudhry said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has left no stone unturned to voice his reservations against the rising Islamophobia on every international forum, including the United Nations General Assembly.
The information minister informed the participants that the premier has recently released funds for the Rehmat-ul-Alimeen Authority, adding that it is the responsibility of the clergy to navigate the Muslims towards the right discourse.
“Recently there were two riots in Lahore and Gujranwala in the name of blasphemy. The courts later found out that they were property disputes. Nothing can be eviler than to use the religion for peace to settle scores,” he remarked.
